Fitting In

This is a bed size quilt.  It is considered a “ charm” quilt
because each piece of fabric
in the quilt is different.
Those fabrics were acquired in exchanges with quilting friends
over a period of time, called “fabric swaps”.

Original design based on traditional quilt block.

Machine pieced and quilted.

Cotton. 2001

(In the collection of Gracie Janove)

Gathering Rainbow

Maya Angelou, in talking about her own life, referred to many people who were the "rainbows in her clouds."

In one particular interview, she encouraged all of us to ‘Be a rainbow in somebody else’s cloud.’

This quilt is my reflection on that quote, with the colors of the rainbow gathering
to squeeze out the gray sky. We are all capable of showing kindness and empathy to help one another,
to brighten someone’s day and lend the strength they need to move forward.

Therefore, the strong colors to chase away the gray.

The Proposal

A wall hanging designed in response to the theme “Celebrate”

My nephew, Ben, proposed to Lesley on the Ferris wheel at the Navy pier while on vacation in Chicago. He timed their ride so they’d be at the top when the fireworks began.

This set off a year-long family celebration, culminating in their wedding.

I wanted to commemorate this happy time.

Fused fabric, machine and hand stitched.

Cotton, cotton batik, cotton & rayon & metallic thread.

20” x 20”
